Justin Poccia – Financial Planning Assistant

JT KarateI’ve often been told that I’m an old soul, so it’s my mission to bridge the past with the present. I prefer the music of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin on vinyl, the crisp crackle of newspaper, and a dress shirt with sport coat for any occasion. I am also a certified black belt in Kwon Ryu Fu Chi Do from Hoover Karate Academy mastering the principles of discipline, respect, control, confidence, defense, and awareness. These principles earn their names from the combination of Tae Kwon Do, Shorin Ryu, Kung Fu, Tai Chi Chin Chaun, Jiu-Jitsu, and boxing.

JT Catholic School

I was born and raised in Whitehall, PA. I attended Catholic elementary and middle school, Allentown Central Catholic High School, and DeSales University, where I earned a bachelor of science in marketing and finance, with a concentration in financial planning.

I’m extremely proud to say I’m the grandson of not one but two sets of hardworking and resilient immigrant grandparents. My maternal grandparents emigrated from Austria to Canada in 1955, finally arriving in the U.S. five years later. My paternal grandparents emigrated from Italy directly to the U.S. in 1960. Growing up with them, I learned many life lessons and feel genuinely connected to my heritage, observing and learning how to be proud of their legacy driven by strong values and disciplined ethics.

Finance and banking are in my blood. My father is a finance and treasury professional with 30 years of experience working for various Lehigh Valley Fortune 500 companies. When not in the office, you can find him biking on the many rail trails in the Lehigh Valley and beyond. My mother worked in banking for many years, initially as a teller, then primarily as an internal auditor. As a stay-at-home mom during my years in elementary and high school, she enjoyed many opportunities volunteering her time and talent.

My path to the financial services industry has been clear to me from the beginning because I’ve always found it important to help the people around me succeed. But how? To bridge the gap of liminality, from end of college to career, single life to family life, job loss to retirement. Liminality is the quality of being between two places or stages, on the verge of transitioning to something new. My personal and professional goals are to meet people where they are in their financial journey, get to know them, build a trusted relationship, and ensure they are on the path to success.

I am currently working toward becoming a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner. I would like to further continue my professional education by pursuing both the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) and Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®). I am very passionate about philanthropy in all forms – time, talent, and treasure, and equally enthusiastic about donor-advised funds, which allow individuals to support charitable organizations they care about in perpetuity.

As a lifelong resident, I’m a proud board member of the Whitehall Township Preservation Society, a nonprofit organization focused on planning, funding, managing, and oversight of our township’s heritage. Their major focus is on maintaining and enriching the Helfrich Springs Grist Mill built by Peter Grimm in 1807. I’m a lifelong parishioner of Saint Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, actively involved in the parish first as a youth altar server and currently as a volunteer supporting church and community outreach projects. I’m also a proud member of the Coplay Saengerbund, America’s oldest private Austrian social club, a proud legacy I share with my grandparents, Oma and Opa.

Outside of the office, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I’m always ready to travel and explore the world. You can find me reading the Wall Street Journal, watching Formula One racing, and learning new skills to become an amateur golfer. I love exploring flea markets and antique stores for rare atomic midcentury modern finds such as vinyl records, furniture, barware, and holiday decorations. I hope to bring a unique perspective to the field of financial planning and wealth advisory at Milestone Financial. So now that you know about me, I look forward to getting to know you!
